PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

KBS®Coating is a water and weather resistant ablative coating, which has been in use all over the world since 1967 in interior as well as exterior applications.

When KBS®Coating is exposed to fire, an endothermic reaction takes place. KBS®Coating contains substances which are undergoing a chemical and physical change in the heat which leads to a cooling effect on the coated cables. Simultaneously gaseous substances are released which cause a strong flame retardant action thus preventing the spread of the fire. What remains after this reaction is a porous inorganic skeleton which exercises a barrier effect. KBS®Coating inhibits reliably and persistently the fire propagation along vertical an horizontal cable routes. It prolongs circuit intergrity without effecting the current capacity.

KBS®Coating has Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) of 100 and is enduringly water-, weather- and UV proof. This has been proven by a 25-year weathering test. Neither the chemical-physical nor the mechanical and fire resistant properties have change during this period of time. Due to it's excellent compatibility KBS®Coating is also suited for application together with chemicals - a comprehensive stability-listing gives evidence to this.

There are 3 different types of KBS®Coating on offer: the standard product "KBS®Coating"; "KBS®Coating CLF", wich is free of halogens; a make-up that allows easy coating of surfaces by means of a brush called "KBS®Coating Brushable".

Cable fireprotection to reach A category of burning behaviour acc. IEC 60332-3-22

The category of burning behaviour of cables is determining by serie of standards IEC 60332 on international level. Thera can be determined following categories of burning behaviour : D, C, B, A and A F/R.

Application of KBS®Coating is ensuring A category of cable burning behavior according standard IEC 60332-3-22.

The technical parameters of KBS®Coating:

  • thickness of dry coating - 1.2 mm
  • output of coating - 2.5 kg/m²

Circuit integrity under fire condictions acc. IEC 60331-11, temp. 750°C

Cable ability to maintain circuit integrity under fire conditions at flame temperature of at least 750° C is determined by serie of standards IEC 60331 on international level.

Application of KBS®Coating ensures 52 min. of circuit itegrity according standard IEC 60331-11.

The technical parameters of fire coating:

  • thickness of dry coating - 3.6 mm
  • output of coating - 7.5 kg/m²

Circuit integrity under fire conditions acc. IEC 60331-11, temp. 1100° C

Producer COGNIS GmbH additionaly have tested KBS®Coating for fire protection of cables at flame temperature of 1100° C, which is characteristic to hydrocarbon fire.

Application of KBS®Coating ensures 38 min. of circuit integrity at flame temperature of 1100° C according standard IEC 60331-11.

The technical parameters of fire coating:

  • thickness of dry coating - 4 mm
  • output of coating - 8.5 kg/m²
